The opportunity.

An established homewares business is making ecommerce a priority, and you’ll be its first dedicated ecommerce hire.

The brand already sells through retail partners and its own online stores. Now it wants to build a much stronger direct-to-consumer business, with you owning both the daily trading and the decisions that shape its growth.

Reporting to the CEO, you’ll join a business backed by an established, family-owned group where long tenures are common. There’s an existing marketing team and external development support, with leadership willing to back ecommerce investment when the commercial case stacks up.

The role is hands-on. Expect roughly 60% of your time trading and improving the sites, with the rest spent building the strategy, systems and capability around them. You’ll start without a direct team, with scope to build one as the channel grows.

What you’ll own.

  • Own the Australian Shopify trading calendar, from product launches and seasonal ranges to promotions, tracking revenue, conversion and average order value.
  • Improve merchandising across homepages, collections, search and product pages, making stock work harder and growing full-price sales.
  • Develop email campaigns and automated customer journeys that bring people back and build repeat revenue.
  • Make bigger-ticket products easier to buy online, working through product content, sampling, delivery and returns.
  • Lead improvements to conversion, SEO, site speed and customer experience, coordinating with marketing so paid acquisition and onsite activity work together.
  • Set the ecommerce roadmap and manage development partners, apps, integrations and reporting. Build the business cases for investment and track the return.
  • Support the New Zealand store in adopting the Australian approach, alongside ongoing stewardship of the group’s trade websites.

What you’ll bring.

  • Practical experience trading a Shopify D2C business, with the confidence to make changes yourself and brief developers when needed.
  • Evidence of growing online sales through better merchandising, conversion and retention.
  • Experience building ecommerce capability, whether that means introducing reporting, improving processes or developing a channel that was still finding its feet.
  • Commercial judgement: you can explain what needs investment, why it matters and how you’ll measure the result.
  • A collaborative approach to working with marketing, leadership and external partners. You’ll be the ecommerce specialist, so bringing colleagues with you matters.
  • Ideally, experience in homewares, furniture or another category where considered purchases, freight and returns shape the customer experience.

Why consider it.

  • Shape ecommerce as the first dedicated specialist in a business that has made the channel a priority.
  • Work directly with the CEO, an established marketing team and external development support, with backing for investment when the commercial case is clear.
  • Combine hands-on trading with ownership of the strategy, systems and capability needed to build a stronger direct-to-consumer business.
  • The role is Melbourne based, with four days in the office and one working remotely, and has scope to build a team as the channel grows.
